We woke up around 10:00, grabbed some fruit and water from the grocery store and made our way to the coliseum. We had three days to see Rome so we decided to see the coliseum and Roman forum today, check out the Vatican and Sistine chapel tomorrow, and then save the free stuff around the city like the pantheon and trevi fountain for our last day. To tour the coliseum it was 20 euro to wait in a long line but there are 100 people outside that talk you into skipping the line for a little higher price. We ended up talking a guy down to 25 euro each and made our way on a tour with a tour guide. It made me realize that the year we learned Roman and Greek history were really important. Seeing it all in person and hearing about its purpose and just being in awe of the work put in to making it made me glad we visited this historic site.
We walked around in awe, took pics here and there but mostly just appreciated. The Roman forum was really cool too, we had a different guide there and he was probably a little older than me but so knowledgable and could answer any question. By the end of the tour we realized we’d only eaten fruit that day and were hungry so we found a bite to eat somewhere along the way back to the hostel. We made it back around 16:00 and the room was empty so we napped until our roommates got back. We were stuffed but they wanted to go dinner so we went with them and had some wine and hungout a couple hours at the restaurant.
When we got back they were drained and didn’t feel like going out. I showered after a long dusty day of walking around. Nate and I weren’t very tired and a little hungry again. We went and grabbed a slice of pizza down the street and then went to the bar. The crowd was kind of thin and seemed really young. We just decided to call it a night too, it was like midnight or a little later at this point anyway.
