Day 19, October 16, Nice

Beach day. Nate and I woke up and decided to hit the beach. It was a little overcast in the morning so we got some food and chilled then went and spent a few hours at the beach. We wanted to get in the water right away but we knew we’d want showers the second we got out of the water, so we patiently laid out and caught some rays until it was too hot not to get in. The water was amazing. Clearest and warmest saltwater I’ve ever swam in. It was a rocky beach but the rocks were all smooth and soft so you could lay down and walk barefoot no problem. There were thousands of people at the beach. We spent a long time in the water and didn’t really want to get out but it was going to start getting overcast again and we didn’t want to be cold for our walk home.

*Pop up note: In the states having your shirt off in public is a very normal thing. Other than on the beach I haven’t seen one person with their shirt off this whole trip. Usually when I go to the beach or lake back home my shirt stays off through the car ride back home. Here, no chance anyone does that.

We were also starving so we showered and got the mass amount of salt off our bodies then went to get some food. Again, the Arabs came through with the large plate of food at a cheap price. A lot of things were closed because it was Sunday and we did not want McDonald’s or KFC. We ate and then tried to find a bar that played American football, no luck. So we just sat around the hostel and met some people during wine o’clock and then went to our rooms to pack and get ready for another early day of travel to Madrid.

I forgot to mention that our room in this Nice hostel had two bunk beds, I was on top of one and beneath me the past two nights the smelliest man was in our room. He was really nice, funny, and friendly. Just completely unaware of how bad he smelled, a trait I don’t understand. It doesn’t help that the one time he ‘bathed’ was him running water over his head under the sink. So while I hate snoring as I mentioned in Rome I think I would take obnoxious snoring over wretched stench any day of the week. Glad to be getting away from that, nervous about what the next sleeping dilemma will be but for 15 Euro a night it’s hard to complain too much.
