Day 11, October 8, Naples

The cereal our Air bnb host had for us was so good. I don’t really like cereal or milk because American cereal is so sugary and milk is a very unnecessary beverage but this cereal wasn’t sweet at all and had pieces of dark chocolate in it. Real good stuff. We woke up to a bowl of that then decided to explore some of the side streets surrounding the main market alley we explored yesterday. On our way through the beautiful alley we stumbled across had a wedding taking place and there were tons of people outside the church. We had two options at one of the intersections, left or right. We elected left and it was crazy busy on the street. Thousands of stores and people, it was great. As we kept wandering we stumbled across some massive tents in the middle of this plaza and it was a youth science fair. We walked around a little bit but had no clue what was going on because we don’t speak Italian. We kept walking and made it all the way down to the port. Gorgeous. You could overlook the water and see mount Vesuvius on the other side. It was also a warm day so there were lots of boats on the water as well.

*Pop up note: Everyone in Europe smokes. I don’t smoke and I feel like a minority. It doesn’t matter where you are, the scent of cigarettes is somehow lingering. Lots of restaurants have ash trays on the tables, it’s just the norm out here.

We got back to the apartment around 16:00 and Facetimed Nate’s parents over some vino. We got hungry and thought we would go back to that ragu spot we enjoyed the night before. We went at about 18:00 and it was closed till 19:00 so we went back to the apartment to wait. While we were waiting we both knocked out until 22:00 and woke up starving. Not only did we wake up starving, the rain was comin down again. Unfortunately ragu was so busy they had no room for walk ins. Instead we went to the pizza place around the corner. We got menus and the prices were cheap but we had no clue what to order since everything was in Italian and the waiter spoke no English. We both got pizzas by blindly guessing at the menu, both not so good. What’s one thing that should never go on a pizza you ask? Let me tell you, corn. My pizza came with white sauce, cheese, and corn. It was terrible. Probably the worst thing I’ve eaten in Europe so far but I was so hungry that it didn’t matter.

We went back to the room, showered and packed our bags to check-out the next morning and catch our 12:00 train to Rome where we would spend 4 nights.
