Day 29, October 26, Valencia/Barcelona

We had to check out of the hostel by 11:00. We did so and then bought some meat and cheese to go with the rest of our leftover bread and then some water and orange juice to drink for the train ride. With the air conditioning in full force we both got the most sound nights of sleep since we’d been there. And even though it’s a short train ride, it’s still a travel day and those always seem to mess with our heads and tire us out. But on the bright side we’ll get to see Nate’s parents in a few hours and spend a couple days with them.

We got to Barcelona and started navigating toward the hotel based on our screenshots of how to get there. Barcelona was so confusing to us. It was like no city we’d been to in Europe, just so modern and crowded. We were confused. We finally found the hotel and Nate’s mom happened to be looking out the window and yelled our names, a taste of home. We made our way up to their room to find out they got us our own room at a really nice hotel.

We got to the hotel about 17:30 or so and hung out and talked to Nate’s parents a while then we all decided we were pretty hungry so we went to find some food. We ended up choosing a restaurant not too far from the restaurant and got Ron and Dorothy their first paella. Just so happens it was extremely good, maybe the best we’ve had so far, which is funny because Valencia is the birthplace of paella but this places was so amazing.

Then we decided to explore. We found one of the main streets with countless restaurants, shops, and stands with people selling all kinds of stuff. There were also hundreds of people (not an exaggeration) asking us while we walked by if we wanted to smoke weed or buy some cocaine. It was insane. That is not something that happens in the states, and if it did it wouldn’t happen every few steps all the way down a whole street. After walking around a ton we decided we were pretty tired and wanted to take long showers where you don’t have to press a button every fifteen seconds for the water to run. It was the best shower I’ve ever taken. It had four spouts that shot water at you in every direction, amazing.
