Day 25, October 22, Valencia

Every day there are free walking tours at our hostel at 11:30 but we figured we had enough days left to make one so we decided to be organized and go to the train station and reserve a seat on the train for the city we’ve both been looking forward to most, Barcelona!

Nate’s parents decided we were having too much fun and wanted to do a Euro trip themselves and see us so they are meeting us in Barcelona for a couple days before they go hit some other cities and fly back home with us from Amsterdam in a couple weeks! So the plan is to stay a couple nights with them at a hotel to take it easy and explore and then meet up with our Australian friends for the next three days at a hostel.

After we did that we walked around a ton looking at shops and cool restaurants. We ended up finding this cool local spot that was a coffee shop, bar, and restaurant that was about to play the Valencia Barcelona soccer game. We tried to buy tickets to see the game live but we were too late and couldn’t find any seats close to each other. We were the only guys who spoke English in the whole bar and everyone there was rooting for Valencia so it made it really fun and entertaining to watch how upset they’d get when they went down and how hyped they got when they would tie it back up or even go up. The food and drinks were crazy cheap and much larger portions than expected for the price. We could hardly finish.

Back at the hostel our room was still a sauna so we went to the lounge area on our floor and made friends. A girl whose friends were napping started talking to us and then they woke up and we all started talking for a couple hours until we all went our separate ways. They were from Palestine and Germany but lived in Barcelona and Canada. We also met a local Spaniard from Madrid who went to Dallas of all places to practice English so he could go to medical school. We decided to skip the pub crawl knowing it was going to be far too expensive. Instead, we bought some beers and went to this little plaza where at night people skateboard and put on magic or fire spinning shows. It was a good relaxing time.

Then our friends we made at the hostel started walking through the plaza and spotted us and we ended up going to a club with them. We stayed out late but not crazy late and then went back to the hostel and hung out some more until it was time to enter the saunas. It was probably 5:30 or so when Nate and I fell asleep and at 6:30 or so the front desk worker comes in the room with two cops and starts questioning all of us if we saw anything. We were all so confused. Saw what, we said? He said one of your roommates said a guy tried to force himself on her in here. We said what?! He said the guy hugged her hard and tried to kiss her a bunch but she didn’t want it and he wouldn’t stop so she ended up getting away and ran down to the front desk then the police came. The guy got taken away by the police for a couple days with his stuff still in the room and the girl was safe and ended up coming back and staying in the room at like 7:30 that morning. It was a long, intense night.
